In 2000, representatives from several groups which are a part of the Vincentian Family met in Rome to begin this crazy idea of presenting the Vincentian family on the Web. Some great ideas were put forth despite the obstacles of trying to communicate in an oddball fusion of English, Spanish and French, using a delightful amature translator who’s first language was Portugese. The 15 or so people at the 2000 meeting inspired a much large gathering in at St. John’s University in New York in the summer of 2001. More sharing. More ideas. And the promise of a developers website.
Famvin.org, the news and information side of the project has grown substantially over the years. We have news sites in English, Spanish, French and Italian. We have encyclopedia sites in English, Spanish, French, Italian, German and Polish. Sadly, famvin.com has been in the shadows, and not been tended very well. Fr. John and I have worked with the International Formation Program in Paris attempting to make sharing Christ’s Love on the web a less daunting task for the participants.
And so, find here a place to get help with “how to” share thoughts, images and sounds on the Web. Find here ideas for places to host your content, and things to use to do it. The focus will be on inexpensive or free software and sites and opensource applications. And, input is sooooo very welcome.
